Features

  • Battery Voltage V During the internal resistance test, Fluke Battery Analyzers also measure the voltage of the battery under test

  • Discharge Volts V The Discharge mode collects the voltage of each battery multiple times at a user defined interval during a discharge or load test. Users can calculate the time a battery takes to drop to the cut-off voltage and use this time to determine the capacity loss of the battery

  • Ripple Voltage Test V Measures unwanted residual ac component of the rectified voltage in dc charging and inverter circuits. Allows users to test ac components in dc charging circuits and find one of the root causes of battery deterioration

  • Meter and Sequence Modes V The Meter mode is used for a quick test or troubleshooting. In this mode you can save and read the readings in a measurement or time sequence. The Sequence mode is for maintenance tasks with multiple power systems and battery strings. Before a task starts, users can configure a profile for the task for data management and report generation

  • Threshold and Warning V Users can configure a maximum of 10 sets of thresholds and receive a Pass/ Warning/ Fail indication after each measurement

  • AutoHold V When AutoHold is turned on, a reading is captured when it remains stable for 1 second. The reading is then released when a new measurement starts

  • AutoSave V When AutoSave is turned on, measured values are saved to internal memory automatically after an AutoHold reading is captured

  • Fluke Battery Management Software V Easily import data from the Product to a PC. The measurement data and battery profile information is stored and archived with the Management Software and can be used for comparison and trend analysis. All measurement data, battery profile and analysis information can be used to easily generate reports

  • Comprehensive logging V All measured values are automatically captured during testing and can be reviewed on the instrument before downloading for on the-go analysis

  • Optimized user interface V Quick, guided setup ensures you're capturing the right data every time

  • Battery life V 7.4 V 3000 mAh lithium-ion battery for more than eight hours continuous operation.

  • USB port V For fast data download to supplied data analysis and report management application software.

  • Highest safety rating in the industry V CAT III 600 V, 1000 V dc max. rated for safe measurements all around the battery power supply equipment.

Battery testing

It only takes one bad cell to take down an entire string.

Your batteries protect you and your clients from interruptions and anomalies in power and give you peace of mind in your quest to never let the system go down. But batteries have a myriad of vulnerabilities, and it only takes one bad cell to take down an entire string.

Common causes of battery failure

Heat

The main cause of battery failure is heat. For every 8 oC (15 oF) (average) temperature, battery life is halved. Increased temperature causes electrolyte to be expelled from the battery, which degrades the plates. Early stages of dry-out can result in drops in capacity that are not readily apparent. Early detection of this type of failure is important. Once a battery is damaged by heat it is impossible to restore capacity.

Overcharging/ undercharging

Charging problems in batteries can result in shedding, corrosion, and sulfation (where lead oxide turns to a crystal form.) Sulfation-reducing technologies can lower this risk, but once present sulfation can be impossible to remove and those batteries should really just be replaced.

Vibration

Vibration can lead to multiple failures, including corrosion, internal shorts, damage to connections, and inability to charge or discharge.

Internal short

According to the 2010 BCI Failure Modes Study, shorted batteries currently account for 18 percent of battery failures. Battery shorts can be caused by all of the issues described here, in addition to manufacturing defects, lead drop and excessive shock.

Age

Generally speaking, the older the battery the more likely it is to experience failure. Older batteries are also more likely to exhibit increased impedance, and can yield differing voltages that cause them to fall out of line from the string.
